Thanksgiving is over. I have stuffed myself with good food…and restuffed (and restuffed, and restuffed) myself with leftovers. As the calendar gets ready to flip to December, I am busying myself…by programming my DVR to record all varieties of cheesy Christmas movies. Don’t ask me why, but I am a sucker for the mushy, fluff movies that fill every crevice of the TV schedule this time of year. While I don’t normally care for such movies (I’d rather pull out my own eyelashes one by one than watch anything on Lifetime. Sorry Meredith Baxter-Birney.), when they have to do with Christmas, I eat them right up.
Can a mysterious stranger help this small town recapture the holiday spirit?…..
A young boy helps a grumpy old man see the true meaning of Christmas…..
Anything with an orphan.
A young girl tries to prove to the world that Santa does exist…..
A strained family relationship is restored with a Christmas miracle…..
I love them all. So what if I have to wade through the made for TV acting of Melissa Gilbert, Nancy McKeon, and Connie Sellecca? [As an aside, I once ran into Connie Sellecca in a restroom at Disneyland. She was really very pretty….and yes, she washed her hands.]
Of course, I also love all of the traditional favorites. Last year, we watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas so many times, I nearly turned green myself. Rudolph and Frosty, and It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, the list goes on… But every year, along with the classics, I enjoy me a heaping helping of cheese.
So, if you are like me and love a good quality saccharine sweet holiday movie, check out this schedule of dates and times so you don’t miss a one. (The list also includes all of the classics and modern favorites too!) Thanks to Petite Mommy for the link.

I too love Christmas miracle movies! I really want to see “The Kid Who Loved Christmas” again, if I can ever find it… I think that one was made for TV!

Hey Mel,
Have you seen The Greatest Christmas Pagent Ever? If not, you have to check that one out. May be hard to find. Good Luck!

Waaaah! We rarely have Christmas movies on TV in Oz. Have promised myself to buy a few movies to satisfy my need.
And cheese? We have tons of cheese here. Cheeeeeese. Oh how I love cheese! Oh, you meant ‘cheesey’ TV. Ooops sorry.
I really like cheese.

Oh, I love Christmas movies! The Christmas Classics always get me. Ever since I was a child it’s been those movies that really bring out the magic of the holidays for me. Wrapping up on the couch with my family and watching Frosty the Snowman or Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town - I’m transported back to my own childhood, and I feel the same peace and joy I did watching those same timeless movies with my parents.
I’m really glad because I don’t have to wait for them to come on TV this year. Now there is a limited collector edition DVD box-set of all the Christmas Classics available now, containing my two favorite Christmas movies plus five more. It even comes with a bonus music CD containing 7 favorite holiday songs! I only know about it because I work with the company, but you can buy it wherever you do your Christmas shopping. This is something my family and I will treasure for many holiday seasons to come, and I hope it’s something your family can cherish as well.

We love schmaltzy Christmas movies so much we watch them in April, June, whenever we want to sing about “SNOW!” on a train, or wonder if something is “Fragile”, heck we even call one of the friends Cindy Lou Hoo year round, because , well why not?
Awesome post! Thanks!

Oh. I HAVE to watch ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ at least once every christmas season.
And ‘A Christmas Carol’ (George C. Scott only). Every. Year.

Nope haven’t got time for any of that as we have to manage [enjoy?] two birthdays before that.
Cheers
