The Cop Out Featuring Some Shady Math

Kellypea from Kellementology, ever the optimist, tagged me for another meme. Even though I only complete every third one or so, she keeps thinking of me. Gotta’ love that. So I figured it was about time I actually completed one. This one seemed like an easy one…then I got started and realized that eight things is kind of a lot. I think perhaps I will start the “one thing” meme. Quick! tell me one thing about yourself! Done. See? Wouldn’t that be nice? Perfect for someone with a short attention span like me. But this was not the NEW! One Thing Meme! So I tried to come up with eight things for each category, but for some it just wasn’t happening. So here is my sometimes eight, sometimes seven, sometimes six things meme. I was planning to write a bit about The Boy and Asperger’s, and people’s expectations about homeschoolers, but it will have to wait because I have 16 bracelets to make this week. My beads are calling….

8 6 things I’m passionate about:

  1. God
  2. Doing what is best for my kids.
  3. Doing my research. No matter what it is…homeschool curriculm? Chocolate cake recipe? Medication? I research it to death. I am a semi-expert on many, many inane things.
  4. Sleeping in.
  5. My laptop.
  6. Random things at random times…see number 3 above.

8 things I say often:

  1. For real?
  2. LEAVE! THE CATS! ALONE!!!
  3. I’m not saying….I’m just saying.
  4. Y’know?
  5. Whatever.
  6. Dude.
  7. My kids’ names…..usually with their middle name….loudly….followed by Stop that! or That is not appropriate! or What do you say?
  8. Freakin’

8 books I’ve read recently:

I love reading, and used to do it all the time. Lately, I haven’t had chance to read just about anything.

  1. Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
  2. School Success for Kids With Asperger’s (currently trying to finish)
  3. the Bible
  4. The Lorax by Dr. Suess
  5. Stuck Duck, Frog Cops, Fish Gift, and Elk Yelps (The Girl just finished her first set of readers)
  6. Olivia
  7. Insert book about Asperger’s here. There have been many.
  8. Insert book about homeschooling here. There have also been quite a few of these.

8 things I want to do before I die:

  1. See my kids grow up and be happy.
  2. Go to Italy.
  3. Raise alpacas.
  4. Learn how to be a decent photographer, and have an exhibition of my work.
  5. Have a business that is actually successful.
  6. Celebrate my 50th wedding anniversary.
  7. Travel the country in an RV with my husband (Man, I am getting old…)
  8. Learn how to swing dance.

8 songs I can listen to over and over again, and probably have:

The songs being listed here doesn’t necessarily mean they are good songs….just song could listen to again and again….

  1. Jackson – Johhny Cash and June Carter Cash
  2. Sweet Home Alabama – Lynrd Skynrd (why yes, I am white trash, thank you for noticing)
  3. Lie in Our Graves – Dave Matthews Band
  4. Feel Like Makin’ Love – Bad Company
  5. Paul Revere – Beastie Boys
  6. The Tide is High – Blondie
  7. Son of a Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield
  8. Blood on the Ground – Incubus

And so many more…..I could fill an entire meme just with songs, but I am afraid it would be even more boring than this already is.

8 6 things that attract me to my friends:

  1. A slightly twisted sense of humor.
  2. The ability to engage in intelligent conversation. (No, really! I can speak intelligently every once in awhile. Why are you laughing?
  3. The ability to appreciate sarcasm.
  4. A healthy appreciation for food…especially dessert.
  5. Some of them have crazy karaoke skills.
  6. Did I mention food?

8 7 things I learned in the last year:

  1. That as soon as you turn 30, your metabolism comes to a screeching halt. And I do mean screeching. No warning, smoking tires screeching.
  2. That I have no self-discipline. At all. None.
  3. That two cats mysteriously crap about 10 times more than only one, not just twice as much.
  4. That it is possible to homeschool my kids (and spend every waking minute with them) without killing them….or mailing them to Yemen. Okay, so I may threaten the Yemen thing every once in awhile, but still….
  5. That after 6 years of marriage, nine years of being stuck with each other, and 17 years of knowing each other, my husband is still my best friend.
  6. That people die and it sucks.
  7. That people say incredibly insensitive things when someone dies.
  8. That trying to do a meme at almost four in the morning does not make for good writing….and the impressions that a keyboard leaves on your face after you nod off, face down for a bit, are not very attractive.

I don’t tag people for memes, but I am going to ask that anyone who reads this plays along with the NEW! One Thing Meme! Add one random thing about yourself in the comments. At the end of the week, I’ll pick a random winner to receive a handstrung beaded bracelet…made with love (*snort*) by yours truly. Shoot, I’m already making 16, what’s one more? So, come on….let’s get lazy (wo)man’s meme off the ground here. Comment away.

One random thing! Here’s one - I HATE the number 5. I think it’s an evil number - I have no reason for this, I just do. Makes things interesting avoiding 5’s. Yes, I know I probably need therapy. HE!

I am SOOOOOOO not doing this again even though it’s new because there’s SIX instead of eight. You’re pretty slick though. That’s why I heart you so much, mel. Okay, so here’s my thinking….I have that research problem, too. I’m thinking a lot of people call it ADD, but I’m not sold on that. I just think there are lots of bright and shiny things to think about in this world. You agree, right? Okay, so then…I LOVE Olivia. TOTALLY. In my next life, I’m her. First in line. Next…Um. I’m not to the RV thing, and if you think you’re old (reference the comment about your metabolism…) add twenty years and then we’ll talk. Of course, it doesn’t mean you can’t still be hot. Yanno? And last…the cat crappin’ thing is interesting. I’ll have to think on that one because around here, it’s more about which one covers and which one doesn’t. Yuck.

And Nice Job! You get a star. Another one. Because you are one. :)

One thing about me? Um….I am afraid of windmills. A lot. But, not Holland and clogs windmills, but the ones that are used to make electricity. I once made my husband drive three hours out of our way with three kids in a (very small) car to avoid a wind farm. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

Bridges freak me out. And living on Long Island makes that a bit of a problem. I’m not saying I never cross a bridge, but if I didn’t have to, ever again, I would be very very very happy.

I spent an entire day shadowing an embalmer/funeral director to see if I wanted or could handle the job because my Grampa advised that as a career that would always be in demand. It wasn’t near as weird or creepy as I thought it would be, except for the eye caps…EEEEEEEEEEK! Many folks would be very surprised at some of the things I learned that day…very surprised.

I like salsa, catsup, and marinara sauce, but not tomatoes. If they are chopped up very small I can eat them in guacamole, but only because I ADORE avocadoes more than I dislike tomatoes.

I was struck by lightning when I was 11. Regrettably, I didn’t develop any super-powers.
And I love hand made beaded bracelets! :)

What a great meme! I totally know what you’re talking about with the cat crap.

Random thing about me? Um, I sometimes pull out my eyelashes just so I can make a wish on them. I know. It’s bizarre.

    1. I spend waaaaaay too much time reading, commenting on, and maintaining blogs.

    Dory

When I get up in the morning (usually at 05.30), I walk the way from bed to loo with my eyes closed. I am just too tired to open them! And yes, I am very proud of the fact that up until now, I have always made it there and back without any severe injuries.

  • 13 Tom // Dec 14, 2007 at 1:23 pm

One not so random thing… I adore Dory!

One random thing… I like Ballet. Y’know, like the Joffrey company or one of the Russian companies, and I don’t know why.

Hmm, I may just steal that meme tomorrow!
Random thing about me… I still sleep with a teddybear. His name is Chumbawamba and I’ve had him forever. Right now I also seem to have a harp seal, a penguin, and a monkey in my bed, as well as a few random animals that I think the girls left here last time they slept over! Is that random enough???

  • 15 Kelley // Dec 16, 2007 at 12:17 pm

One random thing? Um, I wrote a will at 12 asking for my ashes to be scattered on Boy Georges front lawn? Or what about I have a mole the shape of a heart on my big toe. The one I have broken twice? Or that I am in lurve with my bathroom tree that has bells that tinkle when you tinkle?

Oh, yeah, I have a heap of these memes I need to do. Better go and do them now seeing I am in a random mood.

    1. Something I’m passionate about.

Coming to a complete stop at stop signs. Yes, I know it’s anal but I consider it an homage to a simpler less rushed time.

    2. One thing I often say.

“Life’s not all puppies and muffins”

    3. A book I have read recently.

Everything I read is either a specification or technical publication. Very little plot but mostly true. I did buy an Agatha Christie novel at a garage sale and have promised myself that I would read it. From experience, it’s an empty promise.

    4. One thing I want to do before I die.

I could say have sex again (divororced - father of two) but I’ll stay with something noble. I would like to see the earth from space. I, for some reason, think that would put everything in perspective.

    5. A song that I can listen to over and over.

King of the road - Roger Miller

Can’t explain that. I think it has everything to do with life going on despite its conditions. Huh?

    6. Something that attracts me to my friends.

Blatant honesty. Mean it, say it. Pure and simple.

    7. Something I learned last year.

That I can trust my judgement. My inner compass is true and I can deal with just about anything that happens.

I think you only wanted one random entry but I got carried away.

    Cheers
    Ron

My daughter is up, right now, yelling back there and fighting sleep. I am up, writing a comment and fighting the urge to throw myself off a bridge.
