It Makes Me Look Like I Suck A Little Less

December 28th, 2007 · 13 Comments

My Christmas present from The Husband arrived today. Yes, it was a couple of days late, but it was worth the wait. A beautiful, shiny Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens for my beloved camera. Did that sound like a foreign language to you? Me too. I have no idea what most of that means, but I know it takes pictures like this…..

I will learn how to use my fancy camera if it kills me. So, how about you? Did you have a nice Christmas….or better yet…have any photography or Photoshop tips to share?

that is one fantastic lens! that’s the lens that basically lives on my camera. what a great present!

while everyone has their own style and likes, i’ve found that the 1.8 is really hard to get the focus right with when you’re shooting wide open (at f/1.8) because the focal plane is literally millimeters wide. f/3.5 is probably the sharpest that i’ve seen, but you do lose a bit of the speed that is so nice with that lens.

    have fun!

Ah! When all else fails there’s always the YouTube tutorial! I just entered “Photoshop” and it sent me to a page full of happy peppy people just waiting for me to chose and click. I picked one and the teacher is less than exciting, but he goes through each button and explains why you need it and what id does. So, hope that helps. I imagine that YouTube provides a tutorial on just about anything. Let me know if it works out for you Mel.

When did you ever suck? Was I absent that day?

    What an excellent gift.

I spent one day last week reading the manual to my Olympus E-500 and Digital Photography for Dummies in anticipation of taking better Christmas pics this year. It didn’t work quite as well as I would’ve hoped. But I did get brave and use aperture priority and shutter priority instead of scene mode so I guess that counts for something.

No tips from me, just pure envy. I want a digital SLR camera. This is my 2nd call out to the universe. This year it will happen! Actually I do have a tip, just practise taking lots of photos.

I’m just jealous you have a camera that you can purchase lenses for. I love my camera but would like to eventually get a dslr.

Hey mel…nice lens. You’ll have some fun with that. I know I’ll enjoy it when I graduate to a real sized camera! As far as my “list” is concerned, the MoH and I had a pact that we wouldn’t give each other anything since we were spraying our millions on everyone and everything else. However, I am still waiting for that 20th anniversary present that had to be discussed so was no longer romantic, so is no longer interesting. Will men EVER get it? Sheesh. Happy New Year to you and your family! Take lots of great photos.

I got a digital camera for Christmas! Maybe now I’ll be able to take great pictures, too!

Hey I’m old school - give me a disposable camera. I love them! If I drop it who cares, if I lose it who cares. Heck if I print them who cares :). Merry Christmas sweet girl!

Omg, it’s fantastic. I’m so jealous I could barf. I got a good present: a home recording studio kit so I can start fooling around with recording my dorky science songs better. Lookout, Laurie Berkner! No photography tips but I’m looking forward to seeing the products of your practice!

Happy New Year from the freaks in my house to the freaks in yours! :) :) :)

ahhh…oh, how I can relate to the fancy camera. Mine is a lot fancier than I am, that’s for sure. But I love it. Great photos. Enjoy the new lens (came in through my sister The Nester). Love your header, btw.
